HAIR EXTENSIONS

Although the word "Extensions" is now popularly used to refer to the specialised method/application of hair extension, it simply means what it says, adding hair to your own hair to extend the length, add volume or texture. Sometimes it can just be to add colour to your hair without using chemical process to achieve it. Extensions can be worn permanently or just once in a while for special occasions.

There are different types of hair extensions as well as different methods of application. Extensions can be applied using synthetic or human hair by means of Braiding, Weaving, Bonding, Strand by Strand, Fusion or Microlinks, etc.

At De-Lady Salon we offer all the above techniques, however, the information in this section refers to the following specialised techniques:

Strand by Strand

This method uses a special colour matched cotton to attach the hair extension to individual mini sections of the natural hair. Strands of individual hair extensions are tied (knotted) with a colour matched strong cotton to the natural hair. The hair lasts up to 3 months. This method is popular with Afro hair as the protein glue used in the adhesive-based fusion and pre-tipped techniques tends not to adhere properly with some Afro hair as it does to Caucasian hair. Follow this link for more information - Strand by Strand.

Fusion

Fusing is an application method that is used with individual human hair extensions that are pre-tipped with protein glue. The glued section of the extension is bonded to the natural hair by a heating tool. The individual extensions have protein glue applied all around them. A small plastic template is used to separate the extension from the rest of the hair. A tiny portion of natural hair is pulled through a hole in the plastic template and the extension is glued to it. At that time the extension and the piece of natural hair are rolled together between the fingers bonding them together to create a natural flow. Fusing usually takes between 2 to 4 hours depending on the amount of extension used.

The adhesives use for this technique can withstand both heat and some chemical treatments. The adhesive remover that is used to remove the hair extensions dries the bonding agent to a powdery substance (rather than dissolving it through messy oil and heat). Follow this link for more information - Fusion.

Microlinks

This method uses a metal tube (mini links) to attach the extension to the natural hair. The links are applied by pulling the natural hair  through it with a special tool and then the extension is pulled through the mini link. A tool similar is then used to lock the extension and natural hair into the mini link. No glue is used for this technique. We do not recommend this method for fine hair. Follow this link for more information - Microlink.

Caring for your beautiful extensions

On average your hair extension can last up to four months if it is well looked after with regular salon visits. Some of the hair extensions can be shampooed the same way as you do for you natural hair with your favourite shampoos and conditioners, others require special after-care products. We do highly recommend you use a quality shampoo and conditioner to maintain the natural look of your hair extensions.

As your natural hair grows the extension becomes loose and needs to be touched up. We use 100% human hair and 100% natural Virgin hair for our services.
